Sony Xperia 1 VI was officially launched and the device received a lot of attention from users because the device not only changed the design with a new screen ratio, improved telephoto camera but also upgraded the performance to be stronger than its predecessor, the Sony Xperia 1 V (launched in May 2023) . In this article, I will evaluate the performance of Sony Xperia 1 VI so you can have an overview of the power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in the product.

Sony Xperia 1 VI configuration parameters

In the Xperia 1 VI performance review, I conducted two categories including:

1. Scoring using specialized software.

2. Experience the actual game on the device.

These are 5 games that I downloaded to Xperia 1 VI to experience actual gaming on the device.

Conditions for actual game experience on Xperia 1 VI are as follows:

  • Use Perfdog software to measure FPS data for each game.
  • Set the in-game graphics to the maximum level that the device can support.
  • Enabled “Prioritize performance” in the Game enhancer app settings (applies to all 5 games).

In all 5 games, I set up the “Prioritize performance” section in the Game enhancer application settings.

  • Normal room temperature without air conditioning (about 28 – 30 degrees Celsius).
  • Screen brightness 100%, turn off automatic brightness adjustment feature.
  • Image quality setting set: “Standard mode” (by default).
  • Screen refresh rate set: “High refresh rate” (equivalent to 120 Hz).
  • External speaker volume 50%.

Overview results of FPS measurement table for games

Below is a table of FPS measurement results of games that I have actually played on Xperia 1 VI.

This is the FPS summary table of the 5 games I played on Xperia 1 VI.

Suggestions for optimizing FPS when playing PUBG Mobile

In case you want to maximize FPS when playing PUBG Mobile on Xperia 1 VI, I recommend reducing the Graphics setting to Smooth and pushing the Frame Rate in the game to Limit+ (equivalent to 90 FPS). .

If you want to shoot PUBG Mobile with 90 FPS on Xperia 1 VI, set the game graphics as shown in the picture. I tried measuring FPS when playing PUBG Mobile with the above graphics settings, the Xperia 1 VI now achieved an average frame rate of 88.2, much higher than the 39.9 figure I measured at first. I will describe this game experience in more detail below in the article. Compare PUBG Mobile’s FPS table when I set Ultra HDR graphics, Extremely High FPS (above) and when I set Smooth graphics, Limited FPS+ (below).

Some of my comments

Through the results of performance scoring with specialized software and actual gaming capabilities, Sony Xperia 1 VI with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip has shown us the very impressive power of the product. I’m not too surprised because this is the latest flagship model from Sony at the present time and the product promises to still bring users a smooth performance experience in the next 1 – 2 years.

With the power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor chip, Sony Xperia 1 VI can respond well to most tasks that users often use on their phones. In more detail about the actual gaming capabilities of the Xperia 1 VI, the FPS measurement table for 5 games shows that the product can handle two MOBA games very well, League of Legends: Wild Rift and Lien Quan Mobile. Xperia 1 VI achieved an average FPS of 118.7 when playing League of Legends: Wild Rift and this number in Lien Quan Mobile was 60.9 FPS. Xperia 1 VI offers the best experience playing League of Legends: Wild Rift with an average FPS of 118.7. For another MOBA game, Lien Quan Mobile, Xperia 1 VI can handle it completely with an average FPS of 60.9. Next is the PUBG Mobile game, because I set the graphics to Ultra HDR and Extremely High FPS (equivalent to 40 FPS), the average frame rate that the Xperia 1 VI achieved in this game is only 39.9 FPS. This number will increase to 88.2 FPS if I reduce the in-game graphics to Smooth and the FPS to Limited+ (equivalent to 90 FPS). However, setting the graphics in PUBG Mobile to Smooth will make the image quality and details in the game no longer as beautiful as the Ultra HDR level. On the contrary, aiming and moving in the game become smoother. We can optimize FPS for a better PUBG Mobile playing experience on Xperia 1 VI by reducing the graphics quality in the game. In the last two games including Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, I found that the Xperia 1 VI both produced high average frame rates with numbers of 58.1 FPS and 54.9 FPS respectively. For Honkai: Star Rail, Xperia 1 VI provides a smooth playing experience, rarely experiencing lag and sudden frame drops. You can see that in Honkai: Star Rail’s FPS measurement table when the pink line (representing FPS) has a relatively even direction and has few major fluctuations. The Xperia 1 VI can handle the graphics-heavy game Honkai: Star Rail well and the device rarely experiences lag and frame drops. Meanwhile, the pink line in Genshin Impact’s FPS chart will fluctuate frequently when I play the game for more than 5 minutes. The temperature of the Xperia 1 VI also increased at this time and the device experienced stuttering and frame drops.

When playing Genshin Impact on Xperia 1 VI for a long time, I noticed that the device’s temperature would increase and the device’s performance would also decrease slightly, leading to lag.

Throughout the process of evaluating the performance of the Xperia 1 VI, there were a number of factors that I appreciated about the device.

The first factor is that Sony changed the Xperia 1 VI’s 19.5:9 screen ratio with a larger width. This somehow makes the gaming experience on the device a bit more enjoyable than when I used and evaluated the Xperia 1 V with its 21:9 screen ratio .

I found that the gaming experience on the 19.5:9 screen of the Xperia 1 VI (left) is a bit more pleasing to the eyes than the 21:9 screen of the Xperia 1 V (right). However, I find that checking the map in a MOBA game on a 21:9 screen is still more comprehensive and convenient.

Next, the Xperia 1 VI is supported with regular software updates and this will somewhat improve the device’s performance. When I had just used the Xperia 1 VI for about 2 days, the system reported that the device had received a new update with a capacity of about 417.3 MB.

sony xperia 1 vi review equipped with a powerful processor 36

Xperia 1 VI is supported with regular software updates and this is a factor that I appreciate in the product. Details about the system update are about 417.3 MB on my Xperia 1 VI. In addition to the new screen ratio and support for regular software updates, temperature is the next factor that I appreciate in the Xperia 1 VI. Throughout daily use and long-term gaming (except for Genshin Impact), I noticed that the device did not overheat and this is probably thanks to the new vapor chamber cooling system that Sony equipped. was given to the machine. According to Sony, Xperia 1 VI is the first device in the Xperia 1 Series to be equipped with a vapor chamber (VC) cooling system to improve heat dissipation. Source: Sony. The final element is two details related to the design of the Xperia 1 VI, specifically the four edges with metal grooves and the embossed polka dot back surface with a rough finish for a very comfortable grip. , limit fingerprints. These are characteristics maintained from the previous generation Xperia 1 V. However, I still have a slippery feeling when holding the Xperia 1 VI and even accidentally dropped the device in some cases (I also encountered the same situation with the Xperia 1 V model). To overcome the above situation, I will have to buy an additional case for the Xperia 1 VI. The back of the Xperia 1 VI has an embossed polka dot pattern that feels very pleasant to the touch, but this area does not provide good grip. The four edges with metal grooves of the Xperia 1 VI are also finished in a rough shape similar to the back to limit fingerprints.
