Noble XM1 review: in-ear headphones using xMEMS Cowell + 8.5mm Dynamic driver

Noble XM1 is Noble’s new generation in-ear monitor headset , marking the first time Noble has applied the Cowell xMEMS driver to headphones for mid and high tones, combined with an 8.5m dynamic driver for the bass range. This one has a USB-C jack, which means there’s a DAC/amplifier module inside, plug it into your Android phone, iPhone or laptop and sing.

As headphones in the company’s entry level segment, the XM1’s shell is still made of metal with Noble’s faceplate + logo.

xMEMS driver, as I told you before when writing about the iFi Diablo 2, this is not a new type of driver, its essence is a piezoelectric speaker manufactured with better materials to achieve better performance. certain frequencies without distortion, the limitation with this driver is that it is quite stubborn, requiring a separate amplifier circuit to provide high voltage bias for it to react. This amplifier circuit has been integrated into the USB DAC/Amplifier assembly of the XM1.

I plugged this into my phone and Macbook Air M1 to use. The volume level achieved is quite good, about 80% is loud, when turning off the music there is no leaks or noise.

XM1 has a very strange mid and treble sound. Until now, I don’t know how to describe it in words to accurately describe what I experienced. The overall sound we receive has gone through the tuning and balancing process according to the manufacturer, so it is difficult to say how this xMEMS driver produces its unique sound. But with a little listening experience, the above two sound ranges have a very different timbre from other Noble headphones, a recent example in the same price range is the Noble Stage 3. nobl

The treble sound of the This is just a sound characteristic of the XM1, but we cannot say it is good or bad. Why? Because this sound when listening to a guitar being played or a piano being played, it only sounds dull, but if you listen to yellow music or lyrical boleros, this sound seems quite dry and rough, not creating a slow “air” for the audience. music. However, to listen to EDM, Trance, House, music with many mid and high effects, this XM1 is also attractive.

The bass of the When you listen to opera music, you also make sure to have enough bass, along with the treble speed being quite high, so you can hear the “chirping” sounds quite catchy. I think this low bass is quite dense and bold, the upper bass has a lot of volume, hits round but is not really firm and bouncy.

The midrange of the

It is a moderate midrange, neither bright nor dark, clear, quite cold when listening to Hilary Hahn’s violin pulling Paganini’s Caprices. This low-mid has enough details, but I think for those who listen to medicinal music or audiophile music, this low-mid quality is not enough. Writing here, I suddenly realize that this girl is really picky about music =]]

Beautiful conductor, made of silver-plated copper, consisting of many small, detachable strands. I don’t know if the company will sell other cables or other dac/amplifier modules to upgrade this product in the near future.
