Similar to Pixel 3a, in order to cut costs, Google only uses plastic for the back of Pixel 4a. The plastic case is matte finish and the device is only available in black color (Just Black).
One difference of the Pixel 4a compared to the Pixel 3a or any previous Pixel is the screen. Google has started to adopt the design trends of the smartphone market more when equipping its new mobile model with an eye-catching “punch hole” screen design. Thanks to that, the side bezel as well as the top edge of the Pixel 4a are much thinner than the Pixel 3a.
In other respects, the Pixel 4a still has a fingerprint sensor on the back as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack and similar speaker setup, but the rear camera cluster of the device is made more pit than the Pixel 3a.
Google Pixel 4a is equipped with a 5.81 inch screen, slightly larger than the 5.6 inch size. However, thanks to its ultra-thin bezel design, the overall size of this phone is more compact than its predecessor. In terms of display quality, Pixel 4a still uses OLED panels and supports Full-HD + resolution, so the display quality is not much different than the Pixel 3a.
In addition to the design, Google also brings many worthwhile upgrades to the Pixel 4a’s configuration compared to the Pixel 3a. Specifically, this phone is powered by the more powerful Snapdragon 730G chip and comes with 6GB of RAM, so it gives much better performance than the Pixel 3a. Not stopping there, Google also offers higher storage capacity for the Pixel 4a (128GB), because in 2020 only 64GB like the Pixel 3a is not enough. That’s especially true when the Pixel phones don’t yet have an external memory card slot.
As for the camera, the design of the two front and rear cameras of the Pixel 4a is different from that of the Pixel 3a. However, the sensors used inside of both phones are exactly the same. They both have an 8MP front camera and a 12.2MP rear camera with a slight change in the aperture of the primary lens on the Pixel 4a. Therefore, the photographic performance between these two product generations is almost unchanged.
Google Pixel 4a is equipped with a 3,140 mAh battery, slightly higher than the 3,000 mAh battery of the Pixel 3a. However, Google said its new mid-range model is more than enough to meet a long day of use of users. That might not be wrong, because the Pixel 3a has also offered very good battery life in the past. Both these phones have in common that they both support 18W fast charging via USB-C.
There’s no denying that the Pixel 4a is a better phone than the Pixel3a. It has a sleeker and more modern design, a slightly larger display, and powerful specifications to meet the daily needs of users. While the Pixel 4a’s camera hasn’t changed, its $ 349 list price is lower than that of the Pixel 3a ($ 399). Hence, the Pixel 4a is an upgrade worth checking out for Pixel 3a users.
